South Florida Community Land Trust is nonprofit developer creating quality, sustainable and permanently affordable housing across South Florida, especially for those most vulnerable to being displaced from their communities by market forces, by developing ownership and rental properties, creating paths to first-time homeownership, and supporting residents so they can maintain housing stability.

Eric L. Haynes, SFCLT Board Chair

Principal, Urban Pointe Developers and Gemini Construction

Eric L. Haynes brings over 30 years of combined experience in public service and real estate development. His public service includes 13 years as Vice Mayor and City Commissioner in Lauderdale Lakes, Chair of the Lauderdale Lakes CRA, and Board Member of the Florida Redevelopment Association. In the nonprofit sector, he served as Executive Director of St. John Community Development Corporation—an affordable housing nonprofit in Miami with assets exceeding $16 million—for 8 years, overseeing large complex tax credit developments. He is a licensed real estate agent and a certified General Contractor in Florida. Currently, he is Principal of Urban Pointe Developers and Gemini Construction. He is a U.S. Army veteran, member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and graduate of Florida A&M University with a degree in Business Economics.

Tessa-Petit

Tessa Petit, SFCLT Treasurer

Executive Director, Florida Immigrant Coalition

Tessa Petit is Executive Director of the Florida Immigrant Coalition, where she works to build immigrant power through civic participation and economic opportunity. Born and raised in Haiti, she moved to the United States in 2001 and spent 14 years with Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Miami, directing programs for low-income families and managing transitional housing for the homeless. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Barry University. In addition to her role at FLIC, Tessa also leads the Haitian American Community Development Corporation, advancing affordable housing and homeownership opportunities for very low-income families in Little Haiti. Her leadership bridges housing, advocacy, and immigrant rights, bringing a unique perspective to South Florida’s challenges and opportunities.

Sandra Seals, SFCLT Secretary

Senior Vice President, McCormack Baron Salazar

Sandra Seals is Senior Vice President at McCormack Baron Salazar, one of the nation’s leading developers of affordable housing. With more than 30 years of experience, she has overseen major housing and community development projects across Florida, Georgia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In her role, Sandra manages every stage of the development process, from securing financing and structuring partnerships to coordinating with public officials, investors, residents, and community leaders. Her career reflects both technical expertise in housing finance and a deep commitment to community engagement. By bringing together diverse voices and resources, Sandra has helped create places where families not only find housing, but also the stability to thrive.

Fitzgerald Budhoo, SFCLT Homeowner & Board Member

Commissioner, City of Oakland Park

Fitzgerald Budhoo has dedicated his career to public service and community leadership. After moving from Manhattan to Miami in 1985, he earned both a B.A. in Management/International Business and an MBA from Florida International University. For 23 years, he worked with Miami-Dade County government, gaining extensive experience in community development and local government operations. In 2024, he was elected City Commissioner of Oakland Park, where he focuses on policies that strengthen neighborhoods and improve quality of life. Fitzgerald is also active in civic life as a member of the Oakland Park Kiwanis Club, a former School Advisory Council representative, and a trustee of the Oakland Park Police & Fire Pension Board. He is also a proud homeowner with the South Florida Community Land Trust.

Barbara Guerrero, SFCLT Resident Board Member

Retired Entrepreneur

Barbara Guerrero has been a resident of the South Florida Community Land Trust since 2010, bringing the important perspective of a longtime homeowner to the board. Born in New York, she first studied nursing before earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration. After moving to Florida with her husband and children, she returned to school to study jewelry design, later building a small business as both a jeweler and sculptor. Barbara is multilingual and known among her neighbors for her generosity and willingness to help, especially local veterans who often turn to her for support. Her story shows how affordable housing can provide stability while allowing residents to grow and give back to their communities.

Stephanye “Steffye” Johnson, SFCLT Board Member

Founder and Executive Director, Trinity Empowerment Consortium

Steffye Johnson is the Founder and Executive Director of Trinity Empowerment Consortium, where she has spent more than 20 years helping families achieve homeownership and financial stability. A HUD-Certified Housing Counselor and HECM Reverse Mortgage Specialist, she brings deep expertise in the real estate and mortgage industries, having worked as an agent and broker. Through Trinity Empowerment, Steffye has guided countless residents through the challenges of credit, lending, and the homebuying process, with a focus on empowering first-time buyers. Her long-standing commitment to education and access to housing has made her a trusted advocate in South Florida and a strong voice for expanding opportunities in affordable housing.
